Carcassonne is a tile placement game set amongst the medi-evil fortifications of Southern France. As a player your role is to assist in creating the cities, the roads and agricultural land in this beautiful setting that was once occupied by the great Roman empire.
 
Each player takes their turn in drawing a tile. Each tile depicts a feature of the landscape, a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or a combination of these features. Each player in turn must place their tile adjacent to a previous player's tile. But the placement of the tile cannot be haphazard. Cities must grow next to cities, roads must extend onto other roads.
 
The game develops strategically with the use of meeples. The meeple can represent a knight in a city, a monk in a cloister, a farmer on his grassland, or a robber on a road. When an area has been completed the meeple score points for the entitled player.
 
The challenge for each player is where to place their meeples and their tiles. Where will you place your meeple to earn points? Will you use a tile to increase the growth of your city or use it to block an opponents ability to finish his mission. Like a chess player you must be forward thinking and calculating to win this game.
